Business Retention and Expansion

BR&EThe Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E) project was introduced to the community in September 2007, as a North Simcoe regional project. The purpose of the project was to gain a better understanding of the issues that affect local businesses and our community.

In April 2008, businesses were invited to participate and visitor surveys were completed between May 2008 and October 2008. A statistical analysis of the data was conducted and the results were prioritized into eight key areas. In January 2009, the community Task Force selected four priority issues where action could commence within the next year, they include:

  • Business Development and Support
  • Economic Development
  • Transportation and Public Transit
  • Workforce Development

The findings of the BR+E project present opportunities to develop strategies that will improve the business climate, help eliminate existing barriers to retention and expansion, and strengthen communication and relationships with all community partners.
