SEB Application Process

Following is an outline of the steps required to submit an application for the Ontario Self Employment Benefit (SEB) Program:

  1. Meet with an Employment Counselor at the YMCA Services at 334 King Street, Midland (705-528-0845) or at the Penetanguishene Employment Services at 2 Poyntz, Village Square Mall, Penetanguishene (705-549-5227)
  2. Attend an orientation session. These sessions are held twice a month at the Employement Servieces and are facilitated by the Self Employment Benefit Coordinator.
  3. Complete the forms that are given to you by the Employment Specialist and return them to North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation. You will be given a one-on-one appointment to discuss the viability of your business idea. A letter of support or non-support along with other documents will be sent to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).
  4. If your application is successful, you will sign a contract with MTCU and begin an online business plan with the Community Futures Development Institute (CFDI). The staff at North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation (NSCFDC) will be of assistance to you throughout the process. You also have access to the NSCFDC business library as well as a computer.
  5. You will present your business plan to a Business Plan Review Panel who will recommend to MTCU if your plan is viable.

Note: At all stages of the OSEB process, the Employment Services as well as the North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation offer recommendations to the MTCU. MTCU makes all final decisions regarding participation on the program.
